My kitchen sink is blocked, what can I do?
OK I know this is wrong but I wasn’t thinking, I poured hot oil from sausages down my kitchen sink, and the next morning I woke up and there was about five cm of water in my sink that wouldnt drain. This morning it has drained slightly but still fills my sink up about 2-3cm. I want to avoid calling the managing agents and was wondering if there is anything I can do first, plunger etc?
OK to those who’ve told me to unscrew the plumbing, its an older style apartment and the pipes have been painted over and are veeeerrrrry tight to unscrew. Will Draino and plunger be effective??
Success - I used draino and flushed with boiling water left it for fifteen minutes and the sink was empty! Thanks/

My Mom always poured the grease into a glass container and kept it in the fridge. LOL. Liquid Plummer or Draino should do the trick. Pour it into the drain, wait 15 minutes, then run the water as hot as it can get. Voila!
I’ll tell you why you should never put hot oil (or oil in general) down the drain: it’s because oil has a lot of fat in it and the fat sticks to the insides of the drain and clogs it. So it kind of has a similar effect as too much cholesterol in the arteries
Put Plumber gel in it (you can buy it at most grocery stores like Kroger and it works on bathroom sinks - with hair, toothpaste and a lot of other stuff in it). Try that.
Try CLR, it’s the best, it breaks down the grease fast. Can be found at the hardware store. For a quick resolution try boiling hot water. And for getting rid of grease (no fuss no muss) pour excess grease into a tin can , that you just keep in freezer til garbage day.
Pour boiling water into the drain, and add a little dish soap to it. Once it starts to drain run hot water or continue with more boiling water to melt the grease out of the pipes. You can also try Drano.
Try placing a paper towel in a small tin can and draining the grease into that. Once the grease cools and sets up, you can toss it into the garbage.
Your Trap is clogged. Open the cabinet doors under the sink.Look at the piping….the part that looks like a (J) is your J-trap.
This should be made of PVC (plastic) you should see a collar (nut) at the top of (J) and at the bottom of the (J) get the biggest bowl or pot that you have.
Place the bowl or pot directly under the J-Trap loosen the collars
counter clock wise, quiet abit of water will come out.
Clean the J-trap with DAWN dish soap and put back in place.
You need a strong man, use plunger then pour draino…. let it sit for about 20min then use plunger again, then draino, let sit and keep doing as needed.
what u need to do is remove the master trap and clear out the hardend grease inside caused by the sausage oil. the trap looks like a horse shoe or like this… J…loosin the nuts from the top and bottom of the trap… beware there is water inside so get some towels:)…tap the trap on a garbage can to remove the grease inside. reinstall the trap and problem solved… the hot oil reached the water in the bottom of the trap and cooled… thus blocking the flow of water, causing your problem… all of the fixtures in your home have master trap and the purpose is to keep sewer gases out… good luck
Don’t use draino AND use a plunger. You stand a great chance of getting draino in your eyes that way.
Add boiling water to the sink and plunge it when it cools a bit. Once you get a little flow, start the hot water coming for 10 minutes or more.
If its a dual sink use a stopper and block the none clogged side. Use a red plunger, (not a black bell plunger), and plunge with one hand while using the other to keep the stopper in the unclogged side. Plunge several times. When you pull the plunger out have someone turn the disposal on. Usually this will cause enough pressure to push the clog through. May have to repat this a couple of times. Don’t use drano or liquid polumber as they don’t do much of anything. To keep your drains pretty clog free treat with bleach for at least 8 hours and then flush with hot water for 5-10 minutes.

i have a question for you.. why is it wrong to pour hot oil down the kitchen sink? i really don’t know so im asking for real.
i’d try draino if the plunger doesn’t work and a plumber if the draino doesn’t work
