How to unclog a double kitchen sink
Has your kitchen sink been draining slower than usual? If you are like most people, you absolutely loathe the sight of water sitting stagnant in your kitchen sink after you have washed a batch of dishes. There is nothing to be afraid of though, because with a bit of time and the proper tools, your double kitchen sink can be draining as fast as ever. Here are the steps to unclogging your kitchen sink.
The first step, obviously is acquiring the tools and substances that will make your job easier.
A bottle of drano or other liquid drain opener.
or a jar of crystal drain opener.
A pair of heavy duty rubber gloves.
An apron or an outfit that you do not mind ruining.
1. The first step to unclogging your kitchen sink is purchasing the appropriate tools of the trade so to speak. If you do not have liquid drain opener on hand, go ahead and buy some as well as a pair of gloves and an apron if you would like.
2. The second step is appraising the situation. Is your drain completely clogged or is it just draining slowly? If your drain is not completely clogged, then it is a good idea to get a foaming drain opener, because it will more effectively adhere to the sides of the drain and remove buildup which is making your drain run slowly. If you drain is completely clogged, then a liquid or powder drain opener is the way to go.
3. Put on your gloves and reach into the opening of the drain to ascertain if the obstruction is within fingers reach. If it is, go ahead and remove it. This is also a good time to remove anything that may be obstructing the opening of the drain, like a drain plug or other piece of hardware essential to the function of the sink.
4. Once you have a clear view of the drain pipe, pour the drain opener down into it. Try to focus the stream as directly down the pipe as possible. You should follow the directions on the drain opening product at this point.
5. Now it is time to be patient. It will take at least a few minutes for the drain opener to do it’s magic. It is a good idea to relax and be patient. Once the drain opener has done its function, you should notice the drain is empty. If it is not empty after the proper amount of time has elapsed, you may want to repeat the process from step 4.
If your drain is open, then congratulations! It is a good idea to run water down the drain to test if it is completely opened. If so, it is also a good idea to wash your sink basin as well as dispose of the bottle of drain opener and gloves.
