How do you fix a clog in a kitchen sink?
Can anyone tell me the best way to get a clogged kitchen sink to losen up so that water goes down the pipes. Thanks, Connie

A plunger is the first thing to try. Next, try a “zip-it”. That’s a cheap plastic thing from home depot. For something worse, just get under the sink, disconnect everything, clean it, and reassemble. Please, do not use draino, this just sets you up for worse problems down the road.
Do you know what the clog is (hair, grease, food?) First try a plunger. If that won’t work… If it’s grease try some boiling water down the drain.. Hair/food you can pour some bleach down the drain and let it sit overnight. DO NOT use Drano, it will damage the drain and can splash back into your eyes… good luck
I have successfully used a garden hose many times for unplugging sinks and bathtubs. It usually takes two people to do the operation, one for turning the water on & off according to need.
[1] Set the hose up connecting it to the nearest convenient faucet. Make sure all connections are tight and not leaking.
[2] Place outlet end of hose down the sink drain as far as it will go.
[3] Then tightly wrap a dish cloth or hand towel around the hose at sink drain level.
[4] Then press and hold cloth tightly into drain.
[5] Then have the hose water turned on slowly for just a few seconds to see if you are able to control it and not make a mess. You may have to repeat the hose wraping & holding proceedure for a time or two for a good water seal, but it usually works. Also keep check on sink water trap under the sink for leaks should the plumbing be bad. When the clog gives way, keep water running full force for a few minutes to clear the drain pipe line and perhaps even flush the toilet to help make sure that you are getting rid of the clog.
A word of caution:
This unplugging method can be hazardous if you have Drano, Liquid Plumber or the like, in the drain. If you still attempt using this method wear eye protection and rubber gloves. Read product warning lable.
