How can I unclog a kitchen sink?
I have been having problems with my kitchen sink being clogged. I have used Draino, plunged it and all. Nothing seems to be working. The whole sink fills up to the top with water withen a few minutes. I have also tried to take off the pipe at the bottom.Anyone have any suggestions on how I can unclog it? Thanks!

first check the trap the U shaped pipe if thats not it use a snake and go down into the pipe line till you hit it it might be deeper into the line and don’t waist your money on drano that never works
When you are plunging it you need to cover the other side of the sink if there is one or any holes that may be in the sink such as overflow holes. Pouring bleach in the drain is also very helpful as well as dawn dish soap!!! Good Luck I went through this yesterday!!
Sounds like there is a problem further down in the pipe. You may have to call a plumber or a rotto-ruter. If you live in an apartment have the landlord call somebody.
Follow the pipe to where it goes into the floor or ground. If you can remove it, chances are you’ll find what is stopping up the drain. The first thing I do is put a garden hose down the kitchen sink drain and turn it on full force. Sometimes it will dislodge the blockage, sometimes not.
Home Depot carries a Muriatic Acid Cleaner.
Read the Directions….
Pour it in, have all doors & Windows open leave the area…
Follow the directions…
I have drains that consistantly back upr due to well water and this clears them out for a good 6 months.
Good Luck
The above answers are all good when you get it fixed though to keep it running good dump some regular old table salt in the drain with the hot water running
never use acids think about it IT’S ACID. Most of the time it doesn’t work and it might make a leak. always use mechanical meets like a plunger or a spring snake. home depot rents drill snake and they aren’t expensive. otherwise call a plumber before you tear it up and it costs more to fix.
i wish to add a note because of an answer above. IF you decide to use muriatic acid, be very careful. it is dangerous stuff. don’t breath it, and if you have kids, keep them away from it. and do not keep the rest of the acid around where kids can find it. my suggestion, don’t use it if possible.
You may have to get a plumber. Our sink does the same thing and it is because the plumbing is to far away from the plumbing vent and it isnt getting enough air in the pipes to help flush the water from the drain. One thing I found that helps for some really really weird reason, is turning on my garbage disposal. We tried various liquids and stuff to and they didnt work. So we called a local plumber and that is what he told us.
Don’t use Muriatic Acid, why because IT’S ACID!!!!!!
Okay, got that out of my system.
First do you have a P-trap (going through the wall) or a S-trap, (going through the floor)? S-traps are notorious for getting things stuck in the upper bend, once when I took one apart, I found a piece of concrete plugging the pipe. Apparently, when the guys was setting his tile inside the bathroom, he used his kitchen sink to clean his tools and the grout got caught, dried out, and became a clog. So, the first thing you should do is take apart your traps and clean them.
Second. How old of house do you have? I ask this for two reasons, older houses have iron pipes for drains. The reason this is bad is because iron will rust and collect things and clog on their own. The only real cure for this is to re-plumb with plastic though, you can buy time snaking the drains. There is also an enzyme solution that will keep your pipes clear, but again you’re just buying time.
Also, if your house is old, the house may have settled where things don’t run downhill like they should, that is, your sink water may have to travel uphill, though not very likely by your brief description, what is more likely if your house settled is a pipe that is pinched.
Third. Good old landscaping. It’s possible that you have a grey water system where your sink empties into a seperate sump or even directly into a garden. There could be roots in them pipes. A good snaking with a power snaker should chew it’s way through, however, be sure to keep the roots out with a product designed for killing roots.
I hope this has helped.

I just had this done last week $186.00 dollars, He told me that you snake it, but there might be a Tee shape pipe down further, so you have to keep wiggling the snake Right and Left to get passed it, It cost me that much because my husband broke the pipe, (DONT ASK) If you want Try this first.Take 1/2 cup of baking soda and pour it down the drain, Then add 1/2 cup of vinegar and pour it down the drain. This will start to foam, when the foam subsides, then let the hot water run, down to help unclog the drain.
do you have a disposal under the sink check it they can clog up easy
also if draino dident work then take off the pipe under the sink take a cloths hanger stretch it out see if the block is close
if so use the hanger
most likley you have a build up in the pipe you will probley have to have it snaked you can do it your self if you rent one or know someone that has one but check you disposal first and then check it with a hanger
or call a plumber

Call a plumber or someone like Roto Rooter to use an eel to unclog it.
