Gurgling noise in my kitchen sink when draining the tub (20 ft away). Also a sewage smell in by basement sink?

I have a problem with my plumbing system in my Home (bungalow). When draining the tub in my bathroom, a gurgling sound can be heard in the kitchen sink. The kitchen is approximately 20 feet away. Also in a possibly related issue, I have a powder room in my basement. When I flush the toilet, a sweage smell emerges from the sink.

It sounds like a possible vent problem, but how do I go about figuring this one out?

BTW. The home is on City water and sewer. I am located in Canada.

Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your info so far.

I’m on city sewage, not septic.

We use the basement sink/bathroom on a daily basis.

Ewwww..call a plumber.

Does sound like a vent problem. Rent a small diameter snake, get up on the roof and snake any obvious plumbing vents. OK…hire a plumber. Easier, cheaper and a whole lot safer in the long run.

I had that problem in my old house. When it rained alot the system would back up into another think like the sink would backup into the tub. If you have a septic system it maybe time to have your septic system ****** out. Usually every 5-8 years depending on how many people in the house and if you dump oil and grease in the sink.

if you dont use the basement sink, the trap (u part) of the drain dries up, letting sewer gases come up from the main line. to resolve- run the water in the basement sink for a few seconds each week this keep the trap from letting gases come back up.
